Why you need to use SPF every day
"It's not sunny, I don't need to wear sunscreen" 🙃
It's a common misconception that for the sun to damage our skin, it needs to be hot and shining bright. We are here to let you know, that's not the case! Both UVA and UVB rays will still penetrate your skin, even when it's cloudy and raining.
If you're wondering what the difference between the two rays are, Ultraviolet A (UVA) has a longer wavelength and is associated with skin aging. Ultraviolet B (UVB) has a shorter wavelength and is associated with skin burning. While UVB rays play the greatest role in causing skin cancers, they are both incredibly harmful for your skin - and the clouds in the sky aren't able to block either of them.
Don't worry though, it's not all gloom! Thankfully there have been amazing advances in sunscreen technology so that you don't have to sacrifice blemish-free skin just to wear sunscreen every day. Brands such as Ultra Violet and Naked Sundays have created beautifully formulated lotions that can be applied every day - without breaking your skin out! We have put a few of our favourites below.
It is important to note, that when wearing sunscreen every day it must be removed correctly at the end of the day. We have said it once and we will probably say it 1000 more times (hehe) this is where you need to bring double cleansing into your life. When you double cleanse, the first cleanser breaks down any makeup, sunscreen, excess dirt and oil from the day. This is excellent but doesn't treat any specific skin concerns. The second cleanser you use (cue Konjac Sponge) will address any particular skin concern you have. If you are susceptible to breakouts and blackheads, then the Charcoal Konjac Sponge is the answer for you. If your skin is dry and irritated, we recommend using the Pink French Clay Konjac Sponge, and if you want to give your skin that little extra boost of protection against free radicals, we recommend using the Green tea Konjac Sponge.
